Our Curriculum
The school embraces developmentally-appropriate activities for the children which are, in essence, child-driven and teacher-directed. The educational philosophy of The CDSCN employs the use of domains in all areas, specifically in the presentation of all themes and subject matter to the students and in the evaluation of all staff members. The school continually focuses on and embraces staff mentoring and positive peer review.
The CDSCN follows the Colts Neck School District calendar. The academic day begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Our Before Care Program begins at 7:45 a.m. and the After School Program ends at 5:30 p.m. Our After School Program features playground time, story time, arts & crafts, and homework help. We also offer some exciting programs including computers, dance and gym for an additional fee.
The CDSCN staff will evaluate the children 3 times during the school year to assess each child's emotional and social development, academic skills and motor skills development.
NURSERY (Ages 0-18 Months)

Our Nursery children begin their morning with Circle Time. This includes counting, weather and singing. The class will follow wonderful themes each week which will include a corresponding book and art activity. Dancing and puppetry add to their enjoyment.
TODDLER TRANSITION PROGRAMS (Ages 1-2)

The 1-2 year old program is theme based each week. The program includes language development, simple math, and self-help skills. As the toddlers begin to grow, we engage them in many ways such as imitating and pretending, enjoying books and stories, connecting with music and movement, creating art, and outdoor play.
GET READY PROGRAMS (Ages 2-3)

Daily routines are an important part of our curriculum. We begin each day with Circle Time. During this time, the children will discuss the calender, the weather, colors, and shapes. The children will use "tracers" to learn to write their names and some simple words unassisted. They will also listen to and discuss stories and will complete activities pertaining to the "Letter of The Week." Children will begin to become more independent and they will learn to use words to express themselves.
PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS (Ages 3-4) (top)
The CDSCN is a phonetically-based school. Phonemic awareness begins in the nursery. The 3 and 4 year old program is theme-based each week. It includes: Phonics and Reading, Mathematics, Science and Health, Art Projects, Social Studies, Indoor Dance/Exercise, Puppetry, Crafting and Playground Time. Our full day program also includes Spanish and Art. The continuum for the Dolch Word List (introduction to the concept of print as having meaning) begins within this age group. Children will learn to recognize familiar Dolch Words and sentence boards using Dolch words at 3.5 years old.
PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS (Ages 4-5) (top)
In the Pre-K program, children will continue to develop phonemic awareness and they will recognize the links between spoken and written words. Our goal is to have our students love reading and have the desire to continue to embrace literature throughout their lives. Our students will also continue to learn the Dolch Basic Sight Words, learn more advanced math concepts, and expand their Spanish vocabulary. Reading readiness is a key component of our curriculum. At the completion of this program, our students are able to read at various levels and are well-prepared for the challenges of Kindergarten. As our students reach their developmental milestones, we strive to help them achieve a higher level of thinking that will challenge them, build self confidence and instill a love of learning.
BEFORE AND AFTER CARE/AFTER SCHOOL

The CDSCN offers Before and After Care Programs for our students. We offer Dance, Gym, and Computer lessons to our after school children at an additional fee.
Please visit the office at The CDSCN for a full schedule of prices for your needs. We are open from 7:45am -5:30pm. We can accommodate most schedules and would be happy to work with you.
